[grow] green onions on your window sill

i feel like it’s a pinteresty day.  not that it meant to be, but perhaps pinterest has found its way into my subconsciousness.  let’s face it: although pinterest can turn into a sinking hole of ideas you collect and never get to, in reality, pinterest has made our lives easier.  or at least, more creative.

anyway, one of the smart ideas i’ve found was the simplicity of growing green onions.  on your window sill.  in water.

these lovely photos are of the green onions after having sat on our sill for three days.  three days!  it feels like Easter.

so the best part, of course, is the ability to snip snip snap with scissors whenever we need them.  you will need to change out the water whenever it gets low or murky, though.  my parents decided to replant them outside though, because we get green onion bunches every so often from my uncle.. and it’s kinda nice putting a new batch of water-hungry plants in.

and of course, i just had to use a pretty cup.

Recipe later!!

[home] softening brown sugar with a marshmallow

yep, this post is exactly as the title states.

Here’s the thing.. I, like many others, have a love-hate relationship with Pinterest.  I find gobs of inspirations and ideas, little diy’s, scrumptious recipes, and pictures of gardens I will never own.  And then it becomes just that – in the time I spent browsing and pinning, I could have been actually applying a cleaning technique or baking something.  Terrible.

Except, because I have been consumed with the notion of being intentional (ahem… this and other situations), I also want to be intentional with being creative!  And using home tips I find :)

So this little handy tip from real simple was a MUST-TRY.. i love brown sugar, and it’s such a chore when it gets clumpy – especially here in Hawai’i where it’s so humid.

to my absolute delight, IT WORKS!! ahh what a relief!  i can’t remember when i stuck my spoon into that jar and got a nice crumbly scoop.  but there you have it.  saw it on pinterest, and it’s verified.
